Although I pursued a financial and technical career rather than going down a creative path I have always been interested in the beauty of urban architecture and Scottish seascapes. This has possibly been due to being taken around building sites with my dad at a young age and being shown the details and beauty of buildings. This has since given me an appreciation of art of different forms and led me to work with glass as a medium. I am keen to get the chance to further study and form my ideas through a variety of mediums.
I have been developing my drawing skills which I have started to rediscover on the HNC Glass Art course at the City of Glasgow College in 2019. Being able to convey ideas in a drawing will help with future designs for glasswork and increase my portfolio of work. Painting and printmaking are also skills I would like to further develop as I feel I am lacking in these areas.
I have good experience in design and also creating three dimensional projects – I feel this course would enhance my planning and build on my creative process which I can then bring to my glass work.
Building my business in art glass over the past 5 years has allowed me to create smaller pieces which are sellable, in the future I would like to develop further into creating larger bespoke glass art pieces for clients. I believe this course will help me develop those ideas and open my mind to incorporating other mediums into my art
